Learn More About IPL Photofacial

Intense pulsed light (IPL) photofacial is a procedure that uses computer-controlled light pulses to reverse abnormal pigment spots and superficial blood vessels resulting from sun damage, aging, and hormonal changes to provide a healthier, youthful, and rejuvenated appearance.

IPL can remove abnormal pigmentation in the face, neck, chest, and hands. Following the procedure, the skin becomes red for an hour or so, but otherwise, there is no downtime. You will see significant results with the first procedure, but the most optimal results are usually seen with a series of three to six treatments.

  • Age spots
  • Broken capillaries
  • Brown spots
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Flushing (rosacea)
  • Skin texture problems
  • Spider veins
  • Sun-induced freckles

Soon after your treatment, unwanted pigment and veins coagulate or shrink, and many completely diminish. Skin tightening may result as well. During the following weeks, your body gradually eliminates or absorbs any fragments that remain.

IPL photofacials also stimulate new collagen production, so you’ll probably also notice restored volume over time.

Before a photofacial, Dr. Fontaine may suggest not taking certain medications or dietary supplements, such as ibuprofen, aspirin, or vitamin E, which could increase bleeding and bruising. If you smoke, stopping for a couple of weeks beforehand can enhance the healing process. As with all aesthetic procedures, ongoing skin care with medical grade products is essential. You will need to stop all retinol or retinoid products for seven days prior to the procedure and may benefit from pre-procedure hydroquinone. If you have a history of cold sores, a prescription for an antiviral will be given.

IPL photofacials are very gentle and most people can resume their regular daily activities immediately after the treatment. You’ll want to protect your skin from UV rays, however, by limiting sun exposure, applying sunscreen, or wearing sun-protective clothing.

Following any laser procedure, it is a good idea to keep your skin well moisturized by applying a gentle lotion after washing your face or showering.

Each method has its pros and cons and Dr. Fontaine will discuss the options and help you decide what is best for you when he discusses your personalized care plan.

Learn More About Laser Skin Resurfacing

Erbium pixel laser from [primary_practice] is used to provide a more youthful look to your skin and can aid in skin tightening and rejuvenation as well. It does so by removing part of the top layer of your skin and tightening the deeper layers. This removes sun damage and smooths fine lines. This procedure is less invasive than a full-thickness skin ablation and has a downtime of two to five days.

  • Fine Lines
  • Acne Scars
  • Skin Texture

Following an erbium pixel resurfacing, there will be 2-5 days of downtime where you can not go out in the sun or wear make up. Depending on your schedule, the resurfacing procedure can be done once with more downtime or split into a series of 2 or 3 treatments with only 1-2 days of downtime following each procedure.

Unlike lasers, radiofrequency is color blind and can be used on all skin types. Our Alma v-Shape pixel RF handpiece can also be used for facial skin rejuvenation. This procedure is also known as a MicroPlasma Peel.

The focused radiofrequency energy creates a microscopic perforation on the surface of the skin, allowing energy to be delivered to the deepest layers of your skin and stimulate collagen remodeling. This technology leaves the skin surrounding the micro-wound intact, which promotes healing and a return to a more natural, youthful appearance.
